React dialog size memory: one key for every dialog, stored size beats the declared width and is never clamped to the window
Found in BOS/Consulting #255 (measured on alpha8, code is the same on master).
ReactWindowControl stores the size a user drags a dialog to in the PersonalConfiguration under ConfigKey.derived(configKey, "reactDialogSize") and applies it again in applyCustomizedSize(). Three defects:
- **The key is not per dialog.** WindowElement (com.top_logic.layout.view) passes ConfigKey.named(context.getPersonalizationKey()), the bare context key ("view"). SplitPanelElement and SidebarElement qualify theirs with getPersonalizationKey() + "." + <segment>, WindowElement does not. Result: one stored key viewreactDialogSize, so resizing any dialog resizes every dialog of the application for that user.
- **The stored size overrides the declared <window width="..."> unconditionally and is never clamped to the viewport.** applyCustomizedSize() does putState(WIDTH, width + "px"); putState(MIN_HEIGHT, height + "px");. The height is applied as a MIN height, so a size remembered on a large screen cannot shrink on a smaller one. A dialog taller than the window ends up with its title bar above the top edge and its buttons below the bottom edge, unreachable (does not scroll).
- **There is no way back.** Nothing clears the key and saveCustomizedSize only writes when both values are > 0. Today only clearing the account's whole personal configuration helps.
Reproduce at 1280x800: drag any dialog larger than the window, close it, open a different dialog: it has the same size, also after logout.
Proposed fix:
- WindowElement: qualify the config key per window (e.g. with the window's view/element id), like SplitPanelElement and SidebarElement do.
- ReactWindowControl.applyCustomizedSize(): clamp width and height to the current viewport (the client knows it; the server can send the stored values as a maximum and let the client clamp, or the control receives the viewport size on attach). A stored size that does not fit falls back to the declared width and auto height.
- Optional: a resize back to the declared size (or a double click on the title bar) clears the stored key.
Evidence and measurements: BOS/Consulting #255.
