enhancement
If a file is created or opened in Eclipse and no encoding is specified for that file type, the platform's default encoding is used.
This is unsatisfactory for development that takes place simultaneously on Windows and Linux.
The project should specify the encoding.
Since development is currently done primarily on Windows, the actual encoding is CP-1252. Since this character set does not exist on Linux systems, the next-best character set, ISO-8859-1, is used as the default encoding.
Test
- Create a Java file outside of Eclipse in ISO-8859-1 containing umlauts such as "äÄüÜöÖß".
- In Eclipse, set the Workbench encoding to UTF-8.
- View the file in Eclipse.
- Expected result: The umlauts are displayed correctly.
