Enhancement
If a file is created or opened in Eclipse and no encoding is specified for this file type, the default encoding of the platform is used.
This is unsatisfactory for development that takes place in parallel on Windows and Linux.
The project should define the encoding.
Since at present predominantly on Windows one develops, the actual Encoding is CP-1252. Since this character set on Linux systems does not exist, the next better character set ISO-8859-1 is used as standard Encoding.
Test
- Create a Java file outside of Eclipse in ISO-8859-1 with umlauts "äÄüÜöÖß".
- Set the workbench encoding in Eclipse to UTF-8.
- View the file in Eclipse.
- Expectation: The umlauts are displayed correctly.
